Mission, Aims and Objectives of the Department
Mission:
The Department of Psychology is committed to the discovery of knowledge about mind, brain, and behavior, and to sharing that knowledge and the research processes that produce it with our students and our community. The department integrates undergraduate and graduate education, research, and service activities to advance the overall mission of the university.
AIMS:-
Psychology is the science of behavior and mind. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope. Psychologists seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of phenomena linked to those emergent properties, joining this way the broader neuroscientist group of researchers. As a social science it aims to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases.
OBJECTIVE:-
- Describe key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in psychology
- Develop a working knowledge of psychology’s content domains
- Describe applications of psychology
- Engage in innovative and integrative thinking and problem solving
- Interpret, design, and conduct basic psychological research
- Understand the socio-cultural influences on human development and behaviour
- Exhibit effective presentation skills for different purposes
- Apply psychological content and skills to career goals
- Develop meaningful professional direction for life after graduation
